TikTok Video Specs & Calculations

Updated

TikTok's upload limits for TikTok Studio, the Content Posting API and in-feed ads, plus the aspect ratio, file-size and upload-time math for vertical video.

TikTok Technical Specifications

As of October 2026. TikTok changes these limits often; check TikTok's upload help, the Content Posting API limits and the ads spec.

Safe Zones

Varies

Depends on the ad size, caption length and add-ons; download TikTok's safe-zone files

Not Published by TikTok

Recommended Bitrate

None

TikTok re-encodes every upload; a clean H.264 file at a sensible bitrate is enough

Audio

None

AAC stereo at 48 kHz in an MP4 is a safe choice

Account Length Limit

Varies

Your account may have a shorter limit than the figures above; the app offers preset maximum lengths when recording

TikTok Creator Calculations

TikTok File Size Calculator

How big your export will be, to check it against TikTok's limits. The free bitrate calculator works it out in your browser.

Formula:

File Size (MB) = (Bitrate in Mbps × Duration in minutes × 60) ÷ 8

Examples:

60-second video at 10 Mbps

Calculation: (10 × 1 × 60) ÷ 8 = 75 MB

Result: 75 MB file size

3-minute video at 8 Mbps

Calculation: (8 × 3 × 60) ÷ 8 = 180 MB

Result: 180 MB file size

Pro Tips:

  • A 30-minute video at 12 Mbps is 2.7 GB, well inside the 10 GB TikTok Studio limit
  • In-feed ads cap at 500 MB, so a 10-minute ad must average under about 6.7 Mbps
  • Compress long videos before uploading on a slow connection

Vertical Video Aspect Ratio

Frame sizes for TikTok's 9:16 vertical format. The free aspect ratio calculator finds the 9:16 frame for any resolution.

Formula:

Height = Width × (16 ÷ 9)

Examples:

720p vertical video

Calculation: 720 × (16 ÷ 9) = 1280

Result: 720×1280 resolution

1080p vertical video

Calculation: 1080 × (16 ÷ 9) = 1920

Result: 1080×1920 resolution

Pro Tips:

  • TikTok Studio needs at least 720×1280
  • Use 1080×1920 for delivery
  • Any other shape leaves part of a phone screen empty

Upload Time Calculator

Estimate upload times for TikTok videos based on file size and connection speed. The free upload time calculator does the sum in your browser.

Formula:

Upload Time (seconds) = (File Size in MB × 8) ÷ Upload Speed in Mbps

Examples:

50MB video, 10 Mbps upload

Calculation: (50 × 8) ÷ 10 = 40 seconds

Result: 40 seconds upload time

100MB video, 5 Mbps upload

Calculation: (100 × 8) ÷ 5 = 160 seconds

Result: 2 minutes 40 seconds

Pro Tips:

  • File sizes are in megabytes and connection speeds in megabits, hence the × 8
  • Phone uploads over mobile data are often far slower than the quoted speed
  • TikTok processes videos after upload, so allow extra time
