General
Is CineMath free to use?
Yes. CineMath is free to download, and every calculator is free to use. CineMath Professional is an optional one-time in-app purchase that adds calculation history and the professional production tools: Camera Database, Multi-Camera Compare, Data Planning, Productions and Timed Notes.
Which devices does CineMath support?
CineMath is available for iOS, iPadOS, macOS. It requires iOS 16.0 or later or macOS 13.0 or later. Universal app - one purchase works on all your Apple devices
Does CineMath work offline?
Yes, for calculating. Every calculator and the Camera Database run on your device with no connection. You need to be online to buy or restore Professional, to create or open share links, and to run the speed test in Upload Time.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
In the app, go to Settings > Share & Support and choose Report a Bug or Request a Feature. Report a Bug starts an email that already includes your app version and device. You can also email support@cinemath.app or use the contact form on this site.
What makes CineMath different from other calculator apps?
The calculator app for filmmakers: depth of field, exposure, timecode, aspect ratio, data rates, RAID, film footage and more, with frame-accurate results. 15 free calculators and 5 Professional tools, including a 149-camera database and production data planning. iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Can I use CineMath for professional film productions?
Yes. The calculators use the published formulas and standards for each job (SMPTE drop-frame timecode, film frames per foot, circle-of-confusion depth of field), and the Info sheet (⌘I on Mac) explains how each one works, with its formula where it has one. For anything that decides a delivery or a shoot, check the result against your camera, NLE or vendor spec.
Professional & Plans
Do I get all calculators with the free version?
Yes. Every calculator in CineMath is free, with copying and export of results. A few extras inside the calculators are part of Professional: camera presets from the Camera Database (for example in Data & Storage) and the speed test in Upload Time.
Is this a subscription or one-time purchase?
CineMath Professional is a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription. The App Store shows the price in your currency before you buy. Restore Purchases unlocks it on your other Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes. Tap any Professional feature in the app to open the upgrade screen and buy it there; it is an in-app purchase, so it is not sold separately on the App Store. Your settings carry over. History starts when you upgrade, because saving to History is a Professional feature.
What's the difference between Free and Professional?
The free version includes every calculator, plus copying and sharing of results; only the camera presets and the Upload Time speed test inside them need Professional. Professional adds: Calculation history: save, search and restore past results; Camera Database: 149 cameras with maker-published data rates; Multi-Camera Compare; Data Planning with LTO archive plans and a PDF report; Productions and Timed Notes; Camera presets in the data rate list; Upload Time speed test; Shared Links: share reports, notes and history online.

What calculators are included?
CineMath includes 15 free calculators. Camera: Depth of Field, Field of View, Focal Length Match, Exposure, Close Focus, Anamorphic. Data/DIT: Data & Storage, Upload Time, Storage/RAID. Editorial: Aspect Ratio, Speed Change, Target Length, Timecode Calculator, Film ↔ Time, Time Lapse. CineMath Professional adds 5 tools: Camera Database, Multi-Camera Compare, Data Planning, Productions, Timed Notes.
How accurate are the calculations?
The math is exact for timecode, frame and footage conversions, and each calculator's Info sheet explains how it works. Some results are estimates by nature: data rates for a codec at a resolution you did not pick from a preset, and upload times, which assume a steady connection. The calculator guides in the Help Center say which results are exact and which are estimates.
Can I copy calculation results?
Yes, in the free version. Tap any value in a result to copy it with its unit, or use Copy under the result for every line. The Export button at the top right shares the whole result as plain text, rich text, Markdown, CSV or JSON.
Technical Support
How do I download CineMath?
Search for "CineMath" in the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, or use the App Store button on this site. It is one universal app, so the same download covers all three.
I'm having trouble with the app. What should I do?
Check the Troubleshooting page in the Help Center first: it covers blank results, Save and History, shortcuts and purchases. If that does not fix it, use Settings > Share & Support > Report a Bug, or email support@cinemath.app with what you entered, what you expected and your device.
How do I restore my Professional purchase?
Open CineMath, tap any Professional feature to open the upgrade screen, and tap Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. "Nothing to Restore" means the App Store found no purchase on that account.
Is my data secure?
Calculations run on your device, and the values you enter are not sent to us. The app sends usage analytics tagged with a random ID (not your name, email or Apple ID); turn them off in Settings > About & Legal > Share Usage Analytics. When you create a share link, the report, notes or history you chose to share is uploaded to cinemath.app so others can open it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
