Common Issues

❌ "Ready for your calculation" Won't Change

Cause:

Not enough input values provided to complete the calculation

Solutions:

  • • Check the input status badge - it shows completion progress
  • • Fill in at least half the required fields for most calculators
  • • Verify all dropdowns have selections (especially frame rates)
  • • Some calculators need specific minimum inputs to function

⚠️ Calculation Seems Wrong

Cause:

Unit mismatch or incorrect frame rate selection

Solutions:

  • • Double-check all unit selections (MB vs GB, Mbps vs MB/s)
  • • Verify frame rate matches your project settings
  • • Ensure timecode format is correct (drop-frame vs non-drop-frame)
  • • Cross-reference with known good calculations
  • • Check if you've confused source and target values

💾 History Not Saving

Cause:

Calculation not complete or duplicate entry detected

Solutions:

  • • Complete all required fields before saving
  • • Check for duplicate detection alert
  • • Verify calculation shows valid result (not "Ready for calculation")
  • • Try manual save with Save button
  • • Ensure you have sufficient storage space on device

⌨️ Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working (Mac)

Cause:

Focus not on CineMath window or modal dialog is open

Solutions:

  • • Click in CineMath window to ensure focus
  • • Close any open modal dialogs first
  • • Try clicking in an input field then using shortcuts
  • • Restart app if shortcuts completely stop working
  • • Check System Preferences → Keyboard → Shortcuts for conflicts

Performance Issues

🐌 Slow Calculations

Common Causes:

  • • Very large numbers can take more time to process
  • • Multiple background apps consuming memory
  • • Older device with limited processing power

Solutions:

  • • Try smaller input values first
  • • Close other apps to free memory
  • • Restart CineMath if consistently slow
  • • Update to latest version

⚡ Interface Lag

Common Causes:

  • • Occurs on older devices with complex calculations
  • • Too many apps running in background
  • • Low available storage space

Solutions:

  • • Reduce animation/effects in device settings
  • • Close background apps
  • • Restart device if persistent
  • • Free up storage space

💥 App Crashes or Freezes

Common Causes:

Usually related to very large numbers or edge cases in calculations

Solutions:

  • • Try smaller input values to isolate the issue
  • • Restart the app completely
  • • Update to latest version
  • • Contact support with specific steps to reproduce
  • • Note which calculator and input values caused the issue

⚡ Speed Change Calculator

Result shows 100.00%

Source and target frame rates are identical - no speed change needed

Unexpected percentage

Check if source and target frame rates are reversed

🎯 Target Length Calculator

Very high speed percentage

Target length may be much shorter than source - verify your time inputs

Negative time results

Check that target length is shorter than clip length

📊 Target Bitrate Calculator

Extremely high bitrate

Check file size units (MB vs GB) and duration inputs

Very low bitrate

Verify duration is not too long for the target file size

🕒 Timecode Calculator

Timecode doesn't add up correctly

Verify frame rate matches your project - drop-frame vs non-drop-frame

Frame count seems wrong

Check that frame values are within the valid range (0 to fps-1)

Reset and Recovery

🔄 Soft Reset

For minor issues, try these steps first:

  1. Close CineMath completely (not just minimize)
  2. Wait 5-10 seconds
  3. Reopen CineMath
  4. Test the problematic calculation again

⚡ Hard Reset

For persistent issues:

  1. Force quit CineMath (iOS: swipe up in app switcher, Mac: ⌘Q)
  2. Restart your device completely
  3. Reopen CineMath
  4. Check if the issue persists

Note: Your calculation history will be preserved

🗑️ Last Resort: App Reinstall

Only if all else fails:

  1. Export your history first (if possible)
  2. Delete CineMath from your device
  3. Restart your device
  4. Reinstall CineMath from the App Store
  5. Restore your exported history

⚠️ Warning: This will erase all your calculation history unless exported first
